    Exploring the interactions between humans and the landscape over Falmouth’s 300 year history.


    Michael Shaughnessy is an artist who has created installations and exhibitions nationally. He is known for his large-scale sculptural works of woven and bound hay. For over twenty-five years Mr. Shaughnessy has taught sculpture design and drawing at the University of Southern Maine. He is currently the President of the Friends of the Presumpscot River and was one of its founders. In this session, Shaughnessy will explore the history of the Presumpscot River, its importance to Falmouth's story, and the efforts underway to protect and conserve it.

    Organized by Falmouth Memorial Library.  This is a Falmouth Tercentennial event.  The series is a collaboration with the Falmouth Conservation Commission, Falmouth Land Trust, Falmouth Memorial Library, Falmouth Recycling and Energy Advisory Committee, Maine Audubon, and The Falmouth Historical Society.

    Tall Ships Portland, the organizer of this event, announced on 07/13/18 that administrative difficulties have made it impossible to hold the dinner this summer.  They apologize to all who made plans to attend.





    Dinner on the Coast, a semi-formal outdoor dinner for 300 along Falmouth's coast in honor of Falmouth's 300th birthday.


    White table cloths, china and glass with food and beverage provided by local restaurants.


    Ticketed event.  Tickets on sale in early 2018.

    For over one hundred years, Casco Bay lay at the center of a geopolitical struggle that spanned the globe. This talk will explore the Indian wars which devastated Falmouth three centuries ago and how they led to familiar events such as the Salem Witch Trials. Join Zachary Bennett, a Ph.D. candidate in history at Rutgers University and a 2007 graduate of Falmouth High School, to learn how conflict in early Falmouth shaped American history and why these contributions have been largely forgotten.

    Join Falmouth Parks & Community Programs for a guided tour of West Falmouth, showcasing Falmouth historic sites and narrated by the Falmouth Historical Society.  Learn about Falmouth's rich history and see the places where those stories played out on the landscape all from the comfort of the Community Programs shuttle. 


    Registration required.  Registration will open in Summer.
